While writing these stories one thing that occurred to me is that I'm pretty shit when it comes to figuring out the exact year things happened.
I think we moved to Champlain (the street near the bridge) when I was twelve but I could've been as old as fourteen when this happened. Some people seem to be really good at knowing the exact year that certain things happened but I'm not one of those guys.
When I saw the first body, I sort of went into a daze and so the second face is not quite as crystallized in my head as the first one. I think the unexpectedness of it all, really etched that moment in time into my head. I couldn't really weave that aspect into the narrative and so I let it go but I guess if I was telling this as a short story in a book then that kind of aspect would be examined.
The format you choose to tell your story in has a lot of influence on how the story gets told - something that hadn't occurred to me before.
I'm still not sure why there was a hearse there and not an ambulance as one might expect. But it's never a good sign to see a hearse in an unexpected place.
